HOW TO CLEAN CAR WHEELS
The key factor in preventing corrosion on your wheels is proper cleaning. We would love to help our customers maintain the look and shine of their wheels, so we have provided 12 easy steps to ensure your wheels look their very best for many years to come.
WHY YOU SHOULD CLEAN CAR WHEELS?
Proper cleaning and maintenance of your wheels is more important than you think, here is why: Brake dust is made of a combination of adhesives and carbon fibers that are created when there is friction coming off of the brake pad. The friction creates tiny metal shavings coming from the rotors. You may think it's ok to leave it sitting on your wheels, but in all actuality, it's really not. Brake dust can eat away at the alloy (metal) material of your rims over time due to its highly corrosive components.
WHAT DOES CAR WHEELS CLEANING GIVE
Reduce corrosion on your wheels from too much “brake dust”
Enhances the appearance of your vehicle
Increase the longevity of your wheels
Prevent rust and erosion
STEP BY STEP
Here are step-by-step procedure to clean and dress your tires and wheels
Directly spray the "Aluminum Brightener" onto your rim. Also, its very important to use a chemical & acid resistant spray bottle when applying.
Please allow the "Aluminum Brightener" to sit for 2-3 minutes.
Once you are ready to wipe, I would suggest using a 20" long microfiber wand to ensure you remove all of the dirt from the rims. Helpful hint: Work your way from the inside out, starting with the inner lip of the rim.
Use a smaller microfiber wand to clean very tight areas or hard to reach spaces between the spokes of your rim.
Use a detailing brush to clean your lug nuts and wheel cap thoroughly.
Next step is to use a wheel/tire brush made with Polypropylene (PP) bristles. This step is crucial in order to remove all dirt and debris from your rim.
Using a convenient hand pump bottle, spray the tire & rim with soapy water.
Brush off excess dirt and grime using the stiff Polypropylene (PP) bristles.
Next, make sure you thoroughly rinse the rim and tire. Use a microfiber towel to completely dry the surface.
Squeeze a couple drops of "Dura-Gloss" to a foam applicator. (If applying to a larger vehicle, we carry a larger sized foam applicator as well).
Simply apply the tire gel to complete this process. The final result will have your rims and tires looking like new!
